Title: Shinda no ka, omae? “Did you die or what, lamer?”
My reviews have been sparse and long-overdue lately, mostly because the current anime haven’t given me much to say…
I am in no way picky when it comes to watching anime. Sure, I have my preferences (love comedy over mecha, for example), but I will stick around with a boring anime for the most part, unless it is EXTREMELY terrible. I have only dropped a few series after at least 5 agonizing episodes (Can anyone say “Cluster Edge?”), and even then, I will look to reviews of later episodes to see if they are worth picking up again.
So what exhausts me so with keeping up with the current series, aside from the usual school/real life business? When I am reminded what real quality anime is like. I just recently finished watching the first season of School Rumble. Compared to the brilliance and funny packed into that jewel, a lot of recent anime have seemed cliche and trivial. I have also started rewatching Fruits Basket with my friend, probably my favorite anime series of all time. Compared to love comedies like these, shows like Kashimashi begin to fall out of favor. Even Karin pales in comparison, despite the fact that it is my most-enjoyed show coming out right now.
Other factors for my sporadic updates would be my lack of motivation at 8pm after a 12-hour school day (school–>after school evening Mandarin class). I am much more prone to simply enjoying anime versus trying to make a review out of it. I also just came down with a 102 F fever (39 C for you non-Americans)… So, recently, Saria has been out of commission. But never fear! I shall try to keep up my end, because blogging is an endeavor I’m determined to follow through. I am just having a harder time having fun right now.
I am thinking of doing at least series reviews if not episode reviews of older shows like School Rumble. The only thing stopping me is the guilt I feel for writing about an old show when I am not even keeping up with the new ones.
I am also trying to find myself as a relatively new blogger, and figure out what style best fits me and will work for me. A few other bloggers have referenced me using different descriptions, but I haven’t been given true insight into how people view my blog and what they like or dislike. Hopefully, over time, I will figure out exactly how I want to use this blog as a vehicle for anime reviewing or commenting.
I try my best to keep my blogging and personal life completely separate, but I thought I owed a post on the status of the site to anyone who has been wondering if I’m alive or not.
In other news, a Google Image Search for “anime tired” brings up a lot of questionable pornographic and hentai material. Hmm…
Now to reward all of those that bothered to read:

I’d say “write about what you want, when you want”, but I don’t really have the reader base to justify such a statement.
Catching up on a backlog is an elation, but throwing yourself at other anime is a good idea to give yourself some free reign; if you’re interested in what you’re doing, you can transfer that into your work.

Whatever you do, keep on blogging! Whether you decide on series, episodes, old or new, as long as you blog, I’ll read.
I don’t watch a lot of anime, despite the fact that I love anime, I just don’t have enough time to watch the new ones, although i do marathon some series time to time.
The first blog that probably caught my attention was seaslugs, I fell in love with kabitzin’s clever blogs. Funny and short I enjoyed reading Kabitzins posts and eventually, I’d watch that episode he blogged, and laugh. But the point is, you rock, more than kabitzin (though i came to this site through a link at seaslugs)! I have to say your blog is by far the most interesting and fun from the ones i do read, especially when you attach those customized screenshots of yours haha.
Your blogging style is witty, and chaste. Your posts are usually simple, but they always accomplish two things every blog shoud in order to be good:
1)give enough information to let us have a vague summary of what happens in the episode
2)make us laugh
I know life can be a bitch, especially when you’re still in school, but all im trying to say is, it doesn’t matter what style you decide to blog with, or what series you decide to blog on; im sure many others along with myself will read them for sure. So… keep rocking D:!
(hmm although this was my first time commenting here, i think i got carried away. oh well)

Nobody blogs older shows, so if that’s what makes you happy, go for it. When I’m looking at aggregators, I usually skip stuff like the fifth review that I’ve seen so far of an episode of F/SN or Shana and rarely skip the entries like “kidou senkan nadesico 3″.
Speaking about my own blog anyway, I’ve found that I don’t really even get that many hits for random weekly episodes anyway unless I’m working from the raw and get the review up super early. Just writing about random stuff has tended to generate a lot more interest, it seems.

I agree with jpmeyer and Rev! I generally write what interests me at the moment, even if they are uber old. Like Giant Robo.
It’s quite pointless to have 504 episode reviews of Mai Otome, so going back to old series is a good idea since it helps newer readers find out what were the gems of the past.

I’m sure there are a lot of people who haven’t seen any anime pre-Love Hina. If you aren’t impressed with the current season’s animes then you should definitely check out some of the classics. I think it would be great for someone to start blogging Maison Ikkoku Episodes. Let me know if you are interested in finding out how to get those.
Anyways, you should do what you think is fun.

I’m sure a lot of people have watched anime before they knew the term anime - and may still haven’t heard of it yet. Think of “Mitsubachi Maaya no Boken”, “Alps no Shoujo Heidi”, “Nils no Fushigi na Tabi” and countless anime of similar style. Of course those were produced for an international market, so they don’t have any obvious references to Japan, and clearly have kids as primary audience.

The thing with blogging older shows is ‘older shows’ pretty much means they’re finish, and unless you watch fansubs and the fansub groups aren’t finish, you’ll probably want to maratron it, more so especially if its really good/triple A class material like School Rumble for example. It’ll be harder to make a decent amount of thoughts and opinions and what not when you have the next episode just a click/button away. Not to discourage you or anything, if you want to do it and will enjoy doing it, go for it ;) But don’t blog it for sake of blogging it and ruining the experience/enjoyment.

::by experience/enjoyment I meant yours, as you might find it a chore or something you have to do to stop between every episode to go blog it.

I sympathize with you. We had a very long&cold winter around here this year (what the h*ll), and I got fever-sick 3 times. Never happened before. Bacteria a re owning the world…. O_o

Mmm. You should write as you please. Writing what you don’t want to write takes out all the motivation. That’s why I never write Otome. In fact I don’t watch Otome.
Btw, could we exchange links?

Cool ^^
This is from my new blog, which is supposed to be a beginning attempt at a French anime blogging community.
In case anyone is interested and doesn’t read French, this is a rambling about how the blog is a better communication tool than the standard website-centered communities. But actually my reflexion about anime blogs was concluded by the decision of a “not just animes, but anything about me” blog. This will also be a blog with hardly any summaries, which are however, to my great surprise, the bread and butter of american blogs.
Maybe it’s part of the cultural difference, but I noticed that French people are almost exclusively interested in two styles, fun posts or strong opinions. I found the orignal posts and comments here particularly interesting, so I linked it for any French guy interested about the American blogging community.
Skav, regular lurker (and therefore French traitor )of many english speaking blogs..

>>Skav: Sounds cool, thanks for linking to me. I wouldn’t know anything about the French anime blogging community, but there is nothing wrong with international growth, right? I am not really fond of summaries either, and I get the most feedback from poll (or “opinion”) posts, so I guess the French and Americans have something in common, then.
And don’t be too shy to comment on English-speaking blogs. We don’t bite. Or at least, I don’t. :)
